One of the first mistakes parents make is hesitating. Once a parent realizes that there is a problem that cannot be managed at home the parents should act on the situation if possible. It is horrible to hear from a parent whose child is about to turn 18 and they have been dealing with the problems for years and it is getting worse. Programs need time to work with the child. Remember the problem did not happen overnight it takes a while to help relearn appropriate behaviors.
